APEX Below Max Shot Size

The APEX™ system utilizes a positive displacement pump and a precisely controlled stepper motor to supply fluid to a Uni-Roller® S2. The stepper motor has a minimum travel distance which, when combined with the pump's cross-sectional area, determines the minimum amount of fluid dispensed during each valve cycle. If a fluid setting is entered that is below the minimum shot size, the APEX™ will display a warning banner on the Job Edit screen and highlight the roller(s) that do not surpass the minimum shot size. If this job is saved by returning to the Job Manager screen, the APEX™ system will operate at its minimum shot size, which may result in a higher fluid output than the intended set point for the job.

To resolve the minimum shot size warning, three adjustable settings are available:

  1. Increase the fluid setting of the yellow highlighted roller(s).
  2. Increase the number of counts on the general job settings display. The system provides a recommended count for optimal fluid application based on the maximum line speed. Increasing the counts results in larger shots being delivered less frequently. The ideal count may vary from the recommended count for specific applications.
  3. Increase the width of the material being processed by the roller highlighted in yellow. For instance, if both outside roller sets only have 1 inch of material passing through them, it is possible to adjust the roller or stock placement so that one roller is not utilized, allowing more material to pass through the roller on the opposite side.
